In short: your expenses, budgets and photos stay on your phone. They leave it only if you turn on Google Drive backup (to your own Drive) or export/share a file yourself. The app is free and shows ads from Google AdMob. It also checks nowstacks.com for updates and, only when you choose, sends us feedback or crash reports.
Expense Calculator & Budget (package com.gauravkr.expensecalculator, "the app") is published by NowStacks (nowstacks.com; "we", "us") and developed for us by our development partner, Gemini Digital Solutions. This policy explains what the app does with your information.
1. Your expense data
Everything you enter — accounts, categories, budgets, expenses, notes, and optional bill or account photos — is stored in the app's private storage on your device. Other apps cannot read it. We never receive, sell or share it, and it is never sent to advertisers or to nowstacks.com.
You can delete individual items, whole accounts, or everything (Settings → Erase all data). Uninstalling the app also deletes all of its data.
2. Google sign-in and Drive backup (optional)
If you turn on Google Drive backup, you sign in with your Google account and the app reads your name and email address to show which account is connected.
Backups — your accounts, categories, budgets, expenses, notes and settings (including the hashed form of your PIN, if you set one), not bill photos — are uploaded over an encrypted connection to a private app folder (appDataFolder) in your own Google Drive. Only this app can access that folder; the app cannot see or change your other Drive files. We never receive a copy.
Automatic backups (hourly, daily or weekly) run only while you use the app and only when something changed. You can back up or restore manually, delete the backup (Settings → Google Drive backup → Delete backup from Drive), sign out, or remove the app's access at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
3. Advertising (Google AdMob)
Apart from optional Drive backup and the nowstacks.com features in section 7, the app connects to the internet only to show a banner ad. Ads are served by Google AdMob, which may automatically collect and use:
- your device's advertising ID and other device identifiers,
- your IP address, from which an approximate location may be derived,
- information about ad views and clicks, and app performance and crash data related to ads.
Google uses this to deliver, personalise and measure ads and to prevent fraud. See how Google uses information from apps that use its services.
Your choices: in the EEA, UK and Switzerland you are asked for consent before personalised ads are shown, and you can change it anytime in the app (Settings → Ad privacy choices). Everywhere, you can reset or delete your advertising ID, or opt out of personalised ads, in your phone's Settings → Privacy → Ads. Ad content is limited to material suitable for a general audience.
4. Camera and photos
If you attach a bill or set an account picture, the app opens your camera app or the Android photo picker. Only the photos you pick are copied into the app's private storage. The app cannot see the rest of your gallery, and it holds no camera or storage permission.
5. Export, import and sharing
When you export, back up to a file, or share, the app creates a file (CSV or JSON) or a text summary and hands it to the app you choose (Files, Drive, email, a messaging app…). From then on, that app's privacy policy applies. When you import or restore a file, the app reads only the file you pick.
6. App lock
If you turn on the PIN lock, only a hashed form of your PIN is stored on your device.
7. Update checks, feedback and crash reports
The app connects to nowstacks.com, our own server, only for these features:
- Update check — when you open the app, it asks nowstacks.com whether a newer version is available, so it can tell you when an update is recommended or required. The request contains only the app's package name and version and, like any internet request, your IP address.
- Feedback and ratings — only if you choose to send feedback (Rate & feedback or Report a problem). We receive your star rating, your message and, only if you type it, your email address, together with the app version, Android version, device model and language.
- Crash reports — if the app closes unexpectedly, it asks you before sending a crash report, unless you chose to send them automatically (you can change this choice in the app's settings). A report contains the technical error details, the app version, Android version, device model, language and any comment you add. It does not include your documents, files, photos, game data or other personal content — although, rarely, a technical error message can quote a small piece of the data the app was handling when the error happened.
We use this information only to reply to you, fix problems and improve the app. It is stored securely on nowstacks.com's infrastructure (our database and hosting providers process it on our behalf), is never sold, and is never shared with advertisers or other third parties. A one-way hashed (non-reversible) form of your IP address is stored with feedback and crash reports only to prevent spam. We delete feedback and crash reports when they are no longer needed, and you can ask us to delete anything you sent at any time (see "Contact").
8. Permissions
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| Internet, network state | Loading ads; optional Google Drive backup; update checks, feedback and crash reports (section 7) |
| Advertising ID, Android ad services | Used by Google AdMob, as described in section 3 |
| Wake lock, foreground service (added by Google's ads library) | Short background tasks of the ads SDK; never used to access your expense data |
| Vibrate | Short feedback when a wrong PIN is entered |
9. Children
The app is not directed at children under 13.
10. Your rights
Your expense data is on your device and under your control: you can view, export, correct or delete it in the app at any time. For Drive backups, use the controls described in section 2. For advertising data held by Google, use your device's ad settings or My Ad Center. To access or delete feedback or crash reports you sent us, or for any privacy request or question under GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, DPDP or any other law, contact us.
11. Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published on this page with a new "Last updated" date.
