ScanPro: PDF Document Scanner Privacy Policy

Last updated October 17, 2026

In short: your scans, PDFs, photos, signatures and extracted text are stored only on your device. They are never uploaded and never shared with advertisers. The app is free and shows a banner ad from Google AdMob on its home screen. It connects to nowstacks.com, our own server, only to check for updates and to send feedback or crash reports when you choose to.

ScanPro: PDF Document Scanner (package com.gauravkr.pdfscanner, "the app") is published by NowStacks (nowstacks.com; "we", "us") and developed for us by our development partner, Gemini Digital Solutions. This policy explains what the app does and does not do with your information.

1. Information stored on your device

Documents you scan or import, the edits you make (crop, rotation, filters, markup), the text recognized on your pages (used to search your documents and to make searchable PDFs), your saved signatures and your settings are stored in the app's private storage on your device. Other apps cannot read them. They are deleted when you delete them in the app or uninstall the app. Documents are excluded from cloud backup; if you move to a new phone with a direct device-to-device transfer, Android may copy them to the new device.

2. Camera and photos

Scanning uses the app's own camera screen, which asks for the camera permission the first time you open it. The camera is used only while that screen is open: to show the viewfinder, to find the page edges in Auto mode, and to take the pictures you capture. Edge detection runs on your device. Photos are saved in the app's private storage and are never uploaded. You can turn the permission off in Android settings at any time; importing photos and PDFs keeps working without it. On devices where the app's camera can't be opened, Google's document scanner (part of Google Play services) is used instead. When you import photos, the Android photo picker gives the app access only to the images you choose.

3. Google Play services and ML Kit

Text recognition (OCR), and document scanning on devices where the app's own camera can't be used, are provided by Google ML Kit and run on your device. The app recognizes the text on your pages in the background so you can find documents by the words in them and export searchable PDFs; the text stays on your device. Your images are not uploaded for processing. Google Play services may download ML models and may collect limited diagnostic and usage information (such as device model, app version and performance metrics) to maintain and improve these features, as described in the ML Kit terms and the Google Privacy Policy.

4. Advertising (Google AdMob)

The app is free and supported by one banner ad, shown at the bottom of the home screen (your document list). No ads appear while you scan, crop, edit, sign, read or export documents. Ads are served by Google AdMob, which may automatically collect and use:

  • your device's advertising ID and other device identifiers,
  • your IP address, from which an approximate location may be derived,
  • information about ad views and clicks, and app performance and crash data related to ads.

Google uses this to deliver, personalise and measure ads and to prevent fraud. See how Google uses information from apps that use its services. Your documents, images, extracted text and file names are never sent to Google AdMob or any other advertiser.

Your choices: in the EEA, UK and Switzerland you are asked for consent before personalised ads are shown, and you can change it anytime in the app (Settings → Ad privacy choices). Everywhere, you can reset or delete your advertising ID, or opt out of personalised ads, in your phone's Settings → Privacy → Ads. Ad content is limited to material suitable for a general audience.

5. Update checks, feedback and crash reports

The app connects to nowstacks.com, our own server, only for these features:

  • Update check — when you open the app, it asks nowstacks.com whether a newer version is available, so it can tell you when an update is recommended or required. The request contains only the app's package name and version and, like any internet request, your IP address.
  • Feedback and ratings — only if you choose to send feedback (Rate & feedback or Report a problem). We receive your star rating, your message and, only if you type it, your email address, together with the app version, Android version, device model and language.
  • Crash reports — if the app closes unexpectedly, it asks you before sending a crash report, unless you chose to send them automatically (you can change this choice in the app's settings). A report contains the technical error details, the app version, Android version, device model, language and any comment you add. It does not include your documents, files, photos, game data or other personal content — although, rarely, a technical error message can quote a small piece of the data the app was handling when the error happened.

We use this information only to reply to you, fix problems and improve the app. It is stored securely on nowstacks.com's infrastructure (our database and hosting providers process it on our behalf), is never sold, and is never shared with advertisers or other third parties. A one-way hashed (non-reversible) form of your IP address is stored with feedback and crash reports only to prevent spam. We delete feedback and crash reports when they are no longer needed, and you can ask us to delete anything you sent at any time (see "Contact").

6. Sharing and exporting

Files leave the app only when you choose to share, save, print or export them. They are then handled by the app or service you select, under that service's own privacy policy.

7. Permissions

Permission Why
Camera Only on the app's camera screen, to take pictures of your documents (section 2). Images are processed on your device and never uploaded.
Storage (Android 9 and older only) Only when you choose to save page images to your gallery
Internet, network state Loading ads; update checks, feedback and crash reports (section 5); Google Play services also downloads the scanner and text-recognition models. Your documents are never sent anywhere.
Advertising ID, Android ad services Used by Google AdMob, as described in section 4
Wake lock, foreground service (added by Google's ads library) Short background tasks of the ads SDK; never used to access your documents

8. Children

The app is meant for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children, and ads are limited to content suitable for a general audience.

9. Security

Documents are kept in app-private storage protected by Android's app sandbox. You can protect exported PDFs with a password (AES-256 encryption). Connections to nowstacks.com are encrypted (HTTPS).

10. Your rights and choices

You can delete any document at any time. Uninstalling the app removes all of its data from your device. To access or delete feedback or crash reports you sent us, contact us. For advertising data held by Google, use Settings → Ad privacy choices in the app (where available), your device's ad settings or My Ad Center. If you have a privacy request or question under GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, DPDP or any other law, contact us.

11. Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published on this page with a new "Last updated" date.
