NowCut Privacy Policy

Last updated October 18, 2026

In short: NowCut edits your videos entirely on your phone. Your projects, videos, photos, music and voice recordings never leave your device unless you export or share them yourself. The app has no ads, no analytics and no sign-in, and it does not connect to the internet at all.

NowCut (package com.nowstacks.nowcut, "the app"), a video editor for Android, is published by NowStacks (nowstacks.com; "we", "us") and developed for us by our development partner, Gemini Digital Solutions. This policy explains what the app does and does not do with your information.

1. No internet connection

The app does not have Android's internet permission, so it cannot send or receive anything over the network. There are no ads, analytics, crash-reporting or tracking tools, no accounts and no cloud sync, and the app does not contact nowstacks.com or any other server. Playback, effects, filters, voice filters, chroma key, beat detection, text to speech and exporting all run on your phone. We never receive your projects, media or any information about you. The Privacy policy and Terms of service links in the app (the ⋮ menu on the Home screen) open these pages in your web browser; your browser loads them, not NowCut.

2. Information stored on your device

  • Projects: your edits (timeline, text, stickers, effects, keyframes and settings) and each project's cover image.
  • Media you add: when you add a video, photo or audio file to a project, the app keeps a copy in that project's folder, so the project keeps working even if the original is moved. Narration you create with text to speech is saved there too.
  • Voice-overs you record.
  • Built-in music, sound effects and stock visuals, which the app creates on your phone the first time you use them.
  • Caches: thumbnails, audio waveforms and lower-resolution preview copies of very large videos, which Android may clear at any time.
  • Settings: your theme, export settings and saved voice filters.

All of this is kept in the app's private storage, which other apps cannot read. Deleting a project deletes it and the media copies stored with it, except media that a copy of the project (made with Duplicate) still uses. Voice-over recordings, the built-in library and caches stay in the app's storage until you clear it or uninstall the app, which removes everything.

3. Your photos, videos and music

To show the videos, photos and music on your phone in its media browser, the app asks for permission to read them: "Photos and videos" and "Music and audio" on Android 13 and newer (on Android 14 and newer you can allow only the items you select), or storage access on Android 12 and older. The app reads your media only to show it to you and to add the items you pick to your projects. It never changes or deletes your originals and never uploads them. You can decline the permission and pick files with the Android photo picker or file browser instead, which give the app access only to the items you choose.

4. Microphone

The app asks for the microphone permission when you first record a voice-over. It records only while you are recording, and the recording is saved in the app's private storage and added to your project. Recordings are never uploaded. Voice filters change the sound on your phone.

5. Text to speech

Text to speech uses the speech engine installed on your phone (for example, Speech Services by Google), and the app offers only voices that work offline. The text you type is passed to that engine on your device to create the narration, which is saved as an audio file in your project. NowCut does not send your text anywhere. The speech engine is provided by its own developer under its own privacy policy.

6. Exporting, saving and sharing

  • Exports and snapshots: exported videos are saved to Movies/NowCut, audio-only exports to Music/NowCut and saved frames to Pictures/NowCut on your phone. These folders are shared storage: your gallery, and other apps you have allowed to read your photos, videos or music, can see these files. Deleting a project does not delete them; delete them in your gallery or file manager.
  • Sharing: when you tap Share, the file goes to the app you choose, which handles it under its own privacy policy.
  • Share / back up a project: this packs the project and its media into one file and opens the share menu, so you can save it or send it wherever you choose. Import project opens a project file you pick.
  • Sharing to NowCut: when you share videos or photos from another app to NowCut, it starts a new project with them.

7. Notifications

While a video is exporting, the app shows a progress notification, and a notification when the export has finished. On Android 13 and newer, the app asks for permission to show notifications when you first open it; you can say no, and exporting still works. The export runs as a foreground service, so it can finish while you use other apps.

8. Device backup

If backup to your Google account is turned on, Android may include NowCut's projects and settings in your device backup, which Google stores in your account under the Google Privacy Policy. Android backs up at most 25 MB of data per app; if NowCut's data is larger, it is not backed up to the cloud. A direct device-to-device transfer to a new phone may also copy it. You control this in your phone's backup settings.

9. Permissions

Permission Why
Photos and videos, music and audio (Android 13+); storage (Android 12 and older) Showing your phone's media in the app so you can add it to projects (section 3)
Microphone Recording voice-overs (section 4)
Notifications Export progress and "export finished" notifications (section 7)
Foreground service (media processing) Keeping an export running when you leave the app
Vibration Short haptic feedback, for example when a volume fader clicks into place
Wake lock, view network connections (added by Google's Media3 video library) Keeping the phone awake during playback and export, and checking whether a network is available. The app has no internet permission, so nothing is ever sent.

10. Children

The app is meant for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. It does not collect personal information from anyone, children included.

11. Security

Your projects and media are kept in the app's private storage, protected by Android's app sandbox. Nothing is sent over the network. Files you export to shared folders are protected by Android's media permissions, like any other photo or video on your phone.

12. Your rights and deleting your data

Because NowCut keeps everything on your phone, you are in control of all of it: you can open, export, share or delete your projects at any time. If you have a privacy question or request under GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, DPDP or any other law, contact us.

Delete NowCut data on your phone: on the Home screen, tap ⋮ on a project and choose Delete. To remove everything, clear the app's storage (Settings → Apps → NowCut → Storage) or uninstall the app. Videos and pictures you exported stay in your gallery until you delete them there.

Data held by NowStacks: none. NowCut doesn't connect to the internet, so it has never sent us your projects, media or any information about you, and there is nothing for us to delete. For any privacy question or request, email gauravkr2506@gmail.com or use the contact form with the subject "NowCut privacy".

13. Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published on this page with a new "Last updated" date. If a future version of NowCut connects to the internet, for example to check for updates or send feedback, we will update this policy before that version is released.
